Dough Balls with Soul

Updated: Jan 28, 2020

Pizza made by robots…has it really come to this? Ironically, two articles regarding automated pizza came my way this morning. Apparently Zume pizza (made by robots) is closing in San Francisco (I wonder why). However, Dominoes is innovating by building a facility in Texas that can make around 20,000 dough balls a day.

Well, obviously, no human can compete with that. But why would one want to? This is what I term the “industrialization of pizza” which transforms, what many may consider an art, to nothing more than a institution which associates "food" as something that comes from a factory, not sourced from the land itself. Dough made by the cold, sterile hands of a robot…no thanks.

But it is a great reminder of how we are slowly losing the crafts of our nation…of our world. Craftsmanship, creativity, and giving heart and soul to one’s work is being traded for a quick buck that most of us will never see, let alone benefit from. Yes, when we are slammed, you may have to wait for one of our pizzas, and this is the drawback of artisanal, made-completely-by-hand pizza, but we believe it is worth it. And it is with this sentiment, that we thank our customers, and future customers, for helping to preserve the sanctity of the craft of making pizza from scratch, with our own two human hands, and with soul. We appreciate you!
